Back to School Organization

As your kids head back to school you may finally be able to organize the bills and piles of paperwork which have amassed on your counter over the summer.  Now is a great time to assess where your money is going and whether you make some changes to your budget.

Create a Record of Accounts

Whether you are filing a summer’s worth or a month’s worth of bills, as bills come in the mail, place them in a folder and at the end of the month, make a list from the documents in the folder of all your account information. Make a record of account numbers, balances, user names and passwords for online accounts, as well as the name on the account (is a middle initial used in the account name?) and record whether each account is joint or individual.

Creating one document with all your account information can be an invaluable resource in case of tragedy and you are too sick to take care of your own affairs, or worse, in case someone has to take over your estate.
